FAQs

  • How long will my Electric Vehicle take to charge?

The time it takes to charge an electric vehicle can be as little as 30 minutes or more than 12 hours. The speed of the charging point will be dictated by the electricity supply at your property.

A typical electric car (60kWh battery) takes just under 8 hours to charge from empty-to-full with a 7kW charging point.

  • How much will it cost?

The cost to charge an electric car varies between home, work and public charging.

For a typical electric car with a 60kWh battery and 200 mile range you can expect:

Charging at home: Around £8.40 for a full charge.
Rapid charging: Rapid charging points are normally found at motorway service stations and typically cost £6.50 for a 30 min, 100 mile charge.

  • How long will it take to do my charging installation?

Assuming that all relevant grants and admin have been completed, a charging installation can usually be scheduled with a lead time of approximately seven days.

The installation, on average, will be completed within three hours.

  • Do I qualify for the OLEV grant at my home?

The OLEV grant allows you to reduce the cost of your home charger by £350. If you qualify for the grant, we can take care of the claim on your behalf.

    Eligibility checklist:
    • You have private or designated off-street parking.
    • Your plug-in car must be purchased after April 2015.
    • You have not made a previous grant-claim for your vehicle.
    • You cannot exceed the allowed limit of two OLEV grant-funded charge points (one each), per-vehicle-per-home

  • Does my business qualify for the OLEV grant?

The OLEV Workplace Charging Scheme allows you to reduce the cost of workplace charging points by up to £14,000.

    Eligibility Checklist:
    • Can be claimed by any business, charity or public authority (back claiming is not possible).
    • You must have off street parking & be able to outline a business need for electric vehicle charging points.
    • Your charging points must be installed by an OLEV-approved installer, such as myEVCP.co.uk
    • You must apply for a digital voucher and present it to your chosen installer.
    • The grant is capped at £350 per socket, up to 40 sockets.

  • Can I connect my EV Charger to a 3-pin plug socket?

It cannot be connected to a 3-pin plug socket; the EV Charger needs to be connected to a meter or consumer unit (fuse box) to ensure that it’s properly protected.

  • What happens if my installation is non-standard?

Non-standard charging installations may incur additional costs. Once your enquiry has been dealt with, we’ll be in touch to arrange your site survey so we can ascertain your individual requirements.

We will produce a no obligation quote for any additional works to include any possible ground works that may be necessary.
